Genealogy 101 & 202: The Fun & Function in Learning your Family History

Genealogy has become a popular practice for adults who are looking to dive deeper into their family history and learn about their ancestry. Genealogy can aid in identifying emerging health issues and even offer people a renewed sense of identity. AARP MA is partnering with Afro-American Historical and Genealogical Society - New England, Inc. (AAHGS-NE, Inc.) and the Greater Boston Section of the National Council of Negro Women (GBS-NCNCW), to offer two webinars on the basics of genealogy for anyone interested in learning more about how to trace their family ancestry.

For this webinar, Vice President of AAHGS-NE Inc., Dr. Kenvi Phillips will share tips and tools that beginners can use to track their lineage and discover their family history. This webinar will cover the basics of genealogy for anyone who is interested in learning more about how to trace their family ancestry.

Although tools to learn about family history have become more accessible, for the African American/Black community the process of tracing ancestry can be more complex due to a lack of government records and the country’s history with slavery. For Genealogy 202, AARP MA is partnering with Afro-American Historical and Genealogical Society - New England, Inc. (AAHGS-NE, Inc.) and the Greater Boston Section of the National Council of Negro Women (GBS-NCNCW to offer a webinar that will focus specifically on African American Genealogy. Vice President of AAHGS-NE Inc., Dr. Kenvi Phillips will dive deeper into the unique experiences and challenges that the African American/Black community may face when trying to trace their family ancestry. This webinar will also include a Q+A where Dr. Phillips will be joined by GBS-NCNW President, Lisa Braxton to answer any questions participants may have.
