Every day, thousands of Mississippians wake up hoping they’re not sick because they don't have health coverage. Elected officials from around the state can do something to fix this. Closing the health coverage gap will help create healthier families, workers and communities. The time to act is now. AARP Mississippi is encouraging Jackson residents to take a step toward better health with Walk with a Doc, a health program that brings doctors and patients together. The monthly walk is at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 10 at Parham Bridges Park, located at 5055 Old Canton Road in Jackson. Walk With A Doc happens at the same time on the second Saturday of each month at Parham Bridges Park, which is the site of the AARP FitLot Park equipment installation.
During this water crisis in Jackson, AARP Mississippi wants to make sure you know how to protect yourself and your loved ones. If you have water, please remember: Do not drink tap water and don’t let your pets drink it. Also, please remember to use boiled water or bottled water to brush your teeth, cook, and wash dishes.

AARP is accepting nominations until July 15 for its 2022 Mississippi Andrus Award for Community Service, which honors 50+ Mississippians who are sharing their experience, talent, and skills to enrich the lives of their community members.

Today, AARP Mississippi announced four organizations throughout the state will receive 2022 Community Challenge grants – part of the largest group of grantees to date with $3.4 million awarded among 260 organizations nationwide. Grantees will implement quick-action projects that help communities become more livable in the long-term by improving public places; transportation; housing; diversity, equity and inclusion; digital access; and civic engagement, with an emphasis on the needs of adults age 50 and over.

Mississippi’s more than 200,000 military veterans and active-duty service members are at risk of being targeted by scammers. AARP recently launched the AARP Veterans Fraud Center, a new online education and resource center to help protect veterans, service members and their families against fraud.
AARP Mississippi will present a virtual event about “Aging and Mental Health” at 11 a.m. on May 11, 2022. Even before the pandemic, many older people felt the impact of social isolation. Many of us have learned that we all struggle during challenging times. This event is being offered in observance of Mental Health Awareness Month.
