Transit Transformation, One Bus Stop at a Time

Know of a St. Louis bus stop that’s in need of an overhaul? AARP in St. Louis, a sponsor of the Build a Better Bus Stop campaign by the nonprofit Citizens for Modern Transit, seeks nominations for its next transit transformation.

One MetroBus stop in St. Louis will be chosen for the upgrade. Nominations are open until Nov. 15, with a selection to be made in January. Work should finish by late summer of next year.

Nominations can come from individuals or organizations. They should include details on why the nominated stop should be upgraded, as well as any partners who helped with the renovation ideas. The person or organization submitting the winning nomination can weigh in on the design — thus helping bring their ideas to life.

AARP committed $15,000 to the project. Better public transit stops can improve a neighborhood’s livability and help specific users, such as older adults and children, says Sheila Holm, community outreach director for AARP in St. Louis.

AARP has already helped revitalize five bus shelters in Greater St. Louis — most recently at the 5th & Missouri Transit Center in East St. Louis, Illinois.
