AARP Does Not Endorse Senator Daines or any Other Candidate or Party

AARP focuses on the issues and we will continue to work with both our U.S. Senators and House Representative on the key issues, like Social Security, Medicare, Healthcare and bringing down the high prices of Prescription Drugs.

Recently, AARP Montana has had to issue three Cease and Desist demand letters for the unauthorized use of the trademarked AARP logo.  Letters were issued to the Montana Democratic Party, The Montana Republican Party and to the Democratic Attorneys General Association (DAGA) in support of various political candidates. 

Additionally, Senator Daines’ campaign continues to imply AARP approval in a recent mailer to Montana voters. 

“AARP does not approve or endorse Senator Steve Daines or any other candidate.  There is a big difference between supporting a prescription drug bill and endorsing a political candidate,” said Tim Summers, AARP Montana State Director. 

In the summer of 2019, AARP supported the bipartisan Prescription Drug Pricing Reduction Act sponsored by Senators Grassley and Wyden.  This bill was heard before the Senate Finance Committee, of which Senator Grassley is Chair.  As a member of that Committee, Senator Daines voted for that bill.  AARP worked with, and praised Senator Daines for his committee vote.  

“AARP works with and praises many elected officials for their work on issues that are important to the 50 plus, but that never constitutes individual approval or endorsement and it certainly does not entitle usage of the AARP logo”, said Summers.
