Through July 15, 2025, AARP Nebraska is accepting nominations for its 2025 Andrus Award for Community Service, which honors a Nebraskan age 50-plus who shares their experience, talent, and skills to enrich their community and enhance the lives of its residents.

To recognize their work in support of Nebraska’s family caregivers, AARP has named Gov. Pete Ricketts, and State Sens. Kate Bolz and Sue Crawford as 2015 “Capitol Caregivers,” a bipartisan group of state legislators, lieutenant governors and governors from 25 states. These elected officials have advanced policies to help family caregivers who are making it possible for older Nebraskans to live independently at home – where they want to be.
We’re proud to introduce AARP Nebraska’s Executive Council, a team of appointed leadership volunteers who help guide, plan and implement activities at the community and state level on behalf of our members and the age 50+ population. They are among 400 dedicated AARP volunteers across our state contributing their wisdom, talents and time in a myriad of ways to help meet the needs of Nebraskans 50 + and their families!

AARP Nebraska recently honored family caregiver, Teresa Thompson from Lincoln, during the annual Nebraska Caregiver Coalition luncheon held at the Governor’s Mansion.
Julie Dunn, a long-time community volunteer in Bennington, is the 2015 recipient of AARP Nebraska’s highest volunteer award. She is the 14th volunteer to be honored with the annual AARP Nebraska Andrus Award for Community Service since it was established in 2002.
AARP Nebraska is hosting several Life Reimagined workshops across Nebraska this fall to help people get inspired about their possibilities.
