AARP today announced three Nebraska organizations—Nebraska Investment Finance Authority (NIFA), Partners for Livable Omaha, and Project Houseworks—will receive 2025 Community Challenge grant funding. The grants are part of AARP’s $4.2 million commitment to fund 383 quick-action projects aimed at making communities more livable for people of all ages, with a focus on the needs of older adults. The funds will support efforts to improve public places, transportation, housing, digital connections, and other key areas.

Last week, a minority of state senators filibustered the Wellness in Nebraska Act, which would have provided federally-funded health care coverage to 54,000 low-income adults who can't afford to buy insurance.
The numbers are in, and they are impressive – Nebraska residents on Medicare saved nearly $19 million on their prescription drugs in 2013, thanks to the closing of the “donut hole” for prescriptions under the Affordable Care Act – or an average discount per beneficiary of $754.

LB 875 would limit large premium increases and reimburse consumers
AARP Nebraska supports LB 920 to create an Office of Public Guardian. Nebraska is the only state without a public guardian office to protect incapacitated adults when no family member or suitable individual is available to handle their affairs. Forty-nine other states can’t all be wrong!
