A state task force has released recommendations to help prepare Nebraska for a surge in the number of residents living with Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia in the next decade. About 33,000 Nebraskans 65 and older have dementia, and the number is expected to grow by more than 20 percent by 2025.
Created by the legislature in 2015, the task force includes a representative from AARP Nebraska. Its goals are to provide information, support and safety for Nebraskans living with dementia and for their caregivers. The recommendations include creating a website that lists dementia-related resources available by county, increasing screenings for early detection and creating a calculator to estimate cost of care.
