With tax-filing season a prime time for identity theft scammers to prey on unsuspecting consumers, the AARP Fraud Watch Network is reminding Nebraska taxpayers that submitting their tax returns as soon as is practical can greatly reduce their chances of being victimized by a fraudulent return.

AARP Nebraska offers free fraud presentations to community groups year round and is now scheduling sessions for 2017. Trained volunteers are available to make AARP Fraud Watch Network presentations across the state. These sessions can help Nebraskans stay up to date on the latest scams, be safe online and take action if they spot fraud.
Nebraskans who want to steer clear of investment scams and other kinds of fraud are invited to attend forums in three cities next month. The events will be from noon to 1:30 p.m. in Kearney, Oct. 4; Grand Island, Oct. 6; and North Platte, Oct. 12. The Nebraska Department of Banking and Finance is hosting the forums in cooperation with other state agencies and AARP.
