AARP Nevada is fighting for family caregivers in Carson City as the Nevada Legislature enters its final days.
There are three specific bills we're following to improve the lives of older Nevadans and those who care for them.
- Assembly Bill 337: requires the Aging and Disability Services Division to establish a dementia care specialist program. Additionally this bill requires the creation of the Nevada Memory Network for early detection and management of dementia, and partnerships for training which will provide services, and caregiver support for persons with dementia.
- Assembly Bill 338: Will help expand services available through the Medicaid waiver for older adults. It also requires the creation of a website to connect individuals with licensed agencies providing home personal care services.
- Senate Bill 329: Requires emergency responders and peace officers to complete training on recognizing and interacting with people who have dementia or other cognitive impairments.

With two weeks to go before the Legislature is set to end, all three of these bills remain alive and moving through the process.
We've testified on these and remain ready to help some of our community partners bring them over the finish line.
