State lawmakers launched a study this summer to determine what kinds of support family caregivers need. The study could lead to legislation in 2017 to ease the burden on those caring for a loved one at home.
If you are caring for an aging parent or loved one, you’re probably feeling the weight of time, money and stress involved in this labor of love. Join other family caregivers by answering a few questions that can help highlight the challenges you face.
North Dakota is home to about 62,100 family caregivers, who provide about $860 million worth of care each year. Their unpaid services result in significant savings to the state budget, because they are helping people who need long-term care to continue to live at home, rather than moving into a nursing home, where their care might be covered by Medicaid.
A 2014 AARP study found more than half of North Dakota registered voters age 45-plus think it is extremely, very or somewhat likely that they will care for an adult loved one who is ill, frail or elderly or who has a disability.
Take this brief survey. AARP will share the feedback with lawmakers to urge them to support legislation that could help family caregivers.
