AARP Oklahoma Outdoor Experiences in 2024

SMOKEY THE BEAR'S 80TH BIRTHDAY: AUGUST 10, 2024

The iconic Smokey the Bear turns 80 this year, and we will celebrate his milestone birthday. Please register at the park office for the 2024 AARP Oklahoma Outdoor Experience sweepstakes. Smokey the Bear will be on site for pictures and "paw-tographs."

Celebration activities include a scavenger hunt along the Classroom Trail, arts and crafts, games, prizes and giveaways, and a special fire prevention demonstration by Smokey the Bear and the U.S. Forest Service.

According to the U.S Forest Service, "Despite the success of Smokey Bear’s campaign over the years, wildfire prevention remains one of the most critical issues affecting our country’s forests and grasslands. With over 80 percent of wildfires being started accidentally or by careless or bad behavior, Smokey's message is as relevant and urgent today as it was in 1944."
