AARP has a new online tool to help Oklahomans determine if they are eligible for the state’s family caregiver tax credit.
The credit is aimed at helping to offset certain out-of-pocket costs that arise when caring for a loved one, such as hiring a home-care aide. It’s good for up to $2,000 per year, or $3,000 if the care recipient is a veteran or has been diagnosed with dementia.
To be eligible, caregivers must make less than $50,000 per year for an individual or less than $100,000 for a couple filing jointly. The care recipient must be 62 or over and require help with at least two activities of daily living, such as bathing and eating.
AARP’s eligibility tool can help caregivers determine if they qualify and which expenses are covered. Go to aarp.org/OKCaregiverTaxCredit.
