It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Tom Anderson, AARP Executive Council member and former AAIP Executive Director, on Friday, November 7, after a battle with cancer.
Tommy Keith Anderson (January 6, 1950-November 7, 2025) Born in Shidler, Oklahoma, Tom was a natural leader whose strength, generosity, and love shaped the lives of all who knew him. From humble beginnings on a farm in Burbank, Oklahoma to earning his graduate degree from the University of Oklahoma, he embodied a lifelong dedication to learning, hard work, and perseverance.
Known for his strong work ethic, Tom was always on the clock. He was driven, dedicated, and deeply passionate about every endeavor he pursued. Throughout his career, he was especially devoted to advancing the field of tribal health, serving in tribal, academic, and non-profit sectors.
Over the years, he held many titles: epidemiologist, coutmaster, executive director, real estate broker, and entrepreneur. Yet, his most cherished roles were those closest to his heart—husband, dad, brother, uncle, and grandpa.
A true provider, Tom made sure everyone around him was cared for. He brought people together not only through his leadership and kindness but also through his famous salsa and chili, made with the same care and warmth he poured into every aspect of his life.
He had a love for travel and adventure, always eager to explore new places, experiences, and cuisines. His life was a testament to curiosity, courage, and compassion, a legacy that continues to inspire those he leaves behind.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by his family, friends, and all whose lives he touched. Tom is survived by his wife, Tina Anderson of Oklahoma City; his children, Alexander Anderson of Kansas City and Amber and her husband, Landon Buettner of Oklahoma City; his brothers, Joe Anderson and Sam Anderson; his sisters, Aliene Potts and Kay Whitlock; his granddaughter Rose Buettner; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ancel and Frances Anderson, his brothers, Larry Anderson and Arvid Anderson, and son, Jonathan Anderson.
A celebration of life will be held at 10am on December 1, 2025 at St. Thomas More University Parish and Student Center, located at 100 Stinson St., Norman.
