Join us virtually on the AARP Oklahoma Facebook.com page May 14 from 10 - 10:30 a.m., and learn tips and tricks for wellness from Mickey Hinds, LIFE Senior Services education coordinator and certified laughter yoga instructor.
Laughter yoga is a low-impact exercise that improves physical and mental health through a series of easy, fun exercises. Most exercises can be done in a chair and all exercises can be modified to fit various fitness levels. Hinds will demonstrate the art of gentle stretches, breathing techniques and give a few belly laughs.
"Laughter yoga is not about controlling our bodies, but about using yoga breathing," said Hinds. According to Hinds and LIFE Senior Services' Vintage Magazine, when we laugh, we deeply oxygenate our lungs much like breathing techniques used in traditional yoga. Oxygenating our lungs is very important especially as we age since it helps prevent pneumonia, increase memory focus and reduce fatigue.
