Beginning February 1 and continuing through April 15, 2019, AARP Foundation is providing free tax assistance and preparation through its Tax-Aide program. Since its inception more than 50 years ago, Tax-Aide has served more than 50 million taxpayers and is the nation’s largest free tax assistance and preparation service.
One by one, the names and accomplishments of 50 Indian Elders were shared with an audience of more than 800 at AARP Oklahoma’s 10 th Annual Indian Elder Honors celebration at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City on Tuesday, October 2, 2018. As the distinguished honorees were announced, they stood to applause, and a medallion was presented to each honoree.
This year you have not one, not two, not three, but four volunteer opportunities for AARP’s Day of Service on Tuesday, September 11, 2018. Join us in McAlester, Oklahoma City, Shawnee or Tulsa as we roll up our sleeves to participate in local community service projects. AARP staff and volunteers will be volunteering at the local food banks in Oklahoma City, Shawnee and Tulsa. In McAlester, volunteers will assemble backpacks with food for children needing nutritional snacks on the weekends.
AARP Oklahoma is now accepting nominations for its 2018 Andrus Award for Community Service, which honors 50+ Oklahomans who are sharing their experience, talent, and skills to enrich the lives of their community members. The award is named for AARP founder Ethel Percy Andrus.
Nona Penner of Yukon was honored, posthumously, for positively impacting the lives of others throughout her life. She was named the recipient of the 2017 AARP Oklahoma Andrus Award for Community Service, which is the highest honor presented by AARP, at a luncheon in Oklahoma City on November 14, 2017. Penner was one of six nominees.
