AARP Pennsylvania State Director commends Gov.-Elect Shapiro on outstanding choice for aging secretary

State Budget

HARRISBURG, PA – Bill Johnston-Walsh, state president of AARP Pennsylvania today issued the following statement after Gov.-elect Josh Shapiro nominated Lackawanna County Area Agency Director and Pennsylvania Association of Area Agencies on Aging Board Chair Jason Kavulich to serve as Pennsylvania’s secretary of aging.

“Governor-elect Shapiro has made an outstanding choice for Pennsylvania’s secretary of aging,” Johnston-Walsh said. “Jason Kavulich has spent his career serving others. He is a dedicated advocate and extraordinary leader, and we have every confidence that his experience, expertise and enthusiasm will make him an effective secretary.

“Considering the Commonwealth’s growing aging population, Jason Kavulich comes to this important post with a proven track record of being an involved and supportive leader for the programs and services that improve the quality of life of older Pennsylvanians. This experience translates into his working understanding of the critical role the Department of Aging plays in upholding the federal Older Americans Act, which is the guiding light for aging service delivery that ensures that our aging population and their caregivers receive needed support and services across all sectors of state government.

“We look forward to working with Jason Kavulich to ensure that every Pennsylvanian can age healthy and well in their own homes and communities with the dignity and respect they deserve.”
