Harrisburg, PA – AARP Pennsylvania issued the following statement from State Director Bill Johnston-Walsh on the 2022-23 state budget proposal from Gov. Tom Wolf:

“On behalf of our 1.8 million members across the state, AARP Pennsylvania appreciates that Governor Tom Wolf’s proposed budget for FY 2022/2023 shows awareness of the myriad of challenges that Pennsylvanians and their families face. However, with the pandemic still on the move, the oldest and most vulnerable among us need protection – with nursing home residents and those who care for them at the front of the line. Pennsylvanians 50-plus want to age in place by remaining in their homes as long as possible, and family caregivers need support to help them do so, but that is impossible without an adequately paid workforce to provide needed care and services.

We look forward to working with the Governor and members of the General Assembly in the coming weeks and months to finalize a budget that supports older Pennsylvanians and those who care for them.”
