AARP Pennsylvania volunteer Kacey French has always had an interest in elder care. As an architect, she developed a passion for creating homes with aging in place and universal design as the focus and led to her volunteering with AARP about five years ago. It also coincided with the start of the York County Village Association, a village specifically for adults 50+, where she serves as co-founder and president.

“The Village is where neighbors help neighbors stay in their homes, plan activities, and help each other getting to and from doctor appointments, getting groceries, etc.,” Kacey said. “We put in for our 501(c) (3) last year and began raising money to start becoming a true village. Now we have 25 members and strong partnerships.” A small grant from AARP Pennsylvania last year helped the Village attain a software program to manage the program.

As the AARP York Team Lead, Kacey helps manage volunteer meetings, answers volunteers’ questions and assists them with the volunteer portal. She has also helped with bringing new volunteers and programming into York thanks to her broad connections.

“AARP has introduced me to other volunteers who I might not have met in my regular day-to-day dealings. These volunteers want to help others in their communities. I love them all dearly.”
