AARP South Carolina Continues to Urge Leaders to Prioritize the Most Vulnerable

Statement from Teresa Arnold, AARP SC state director

AARP South Carolina stands with Gov. McMaster in urging our leaders and lawmakers to prioritize older South Carolinians in vaccine distribution.

“I want to thank Governor McMaster for recognizing who is most vulnerable to COVID.  More than 95% of the deaths nationally and the overwhelming majority of 7,000 plus deaths in South Carolina have been among those age 50 and older. There should be no confusion and clear accountability. Those most at-risk – people 50-plus – must be prioritized for vaccinations in every state.”

AARP SC supports H 3707, a bill that ensures older South Carolinians are prioritized to receive the COVID-19 vaccination.”

“The vaccine supply is still limited and not meeting the demand or need. We must keep the pressure on to improve the efficiency of how they are distributed and administered and to ensure the most vulnerable populations get the vaccine first. There’s no time to waste.”
