AARP South Dakota is encouraging volunteers to help make their communities more attractive places to live, work and play—especially in rural areas.

Most people want to remain in their homes as they age, but their ability to do so depends in part on the community. Does it have sidewalks and safe crosswalks? Transportation for those who don’t drive? Opportunities to connect with others? These are among the features that make a community livable.

Want to get involved in this effort? AARP South Dakota will host a volunteer training session Sept. 12-13 in Chamberlain. For details, email  sdaarp@aarp.org or call 605-362-3044. For more information, go to  aarp.org/livable.
