Stephanie Mace Joins AARP Texas Advocacy Team

Stephanie Mace has joined AARP Texas as an Associate State Director of Advocacy and Outreach. She comes to the AARP Texas state office in Austin from United Way of Metropolitan Dallas where she led advocacy and policy work.

In her new role, Mace will focus on state advocacy issues, including broadband expansion, utilities, housing, payday lending, and more to meet the needs of older Texans and AARP’s more than 2.3 million members in the Lone Star State.

“I am thrilled to join an organization that has advocacy at the heart of its mission,” Mace said. “I look forward to working with AARP’s members to fight for the interests of the most vulnerable and underrepresented in Texas.”

AARP Texas Director Tina Tran said, “I am excited to welcome Stephanie Mace to AARP and she will be a valuable asset to the state-federal advocacy team led by Kathy Green. Stephanie brings extensive policy and leadership experience that will help us advance our mission across Texas. Her background will be instrumental as we continue to champion the priorities of the 50-plus community and their families.”

At the United Way of Metropolitan Dallas, where Mace worked for 16 years, she oversaw advocacy and public policy work at the local, county and state levels. She was instrumental in Dallas’ adoption of a payday lending ordinance in 2011 and a revision of the ordinance in 2022. Mace previously worked for the Texas Legislative Study Group in Austin as a budget and tax analyst.

Born and raised in Houston, Mace holds two master’s degrees – one from University of Texas at Dallas and another from University of Houston. She attained her bachelor’s degree at Texas A&M University. She has served on numerous community boards, including service with Dallas V.O.T.E.S. and DFW Regional Housing Consortium.
