Throughout the 1950s and ‘60s, San Antonio’s Alameda Theatre was renowned as a place to see modern Spanish-language movies and variety shows. Now, the vaudeville-style theatre takes on an exciting new role.
In December, the historic theatre in downtown San Antonio will serve as a venue for showcasing the work of Latino artists of all kinds, including those who are having an impact on Broadway.
Hosted by AARP and the Broadway League, a “Viva Broadway” event takes place Thursday, Dec. 4, at the Alameda Theatre, 318 West Houston Street in San Antonio. The free event aims to bridge the world of Broadway with Latino audiences.
The event gets underway at 6 p.m. Dec. 4 with a cocktail and hors devours reception, which will be followed by a panel discussion between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. about the impact Latinos are having on Broadway and the arts in general. Following the panel discussion, attendees can take a tour of the historic theatre to learn more about its history and restoration.
