AARP Eye Center
With high schools and colleges about to kick off their football seasons, it’s time for fans to add new dishes to their tailgating playbooks, with two virtual cooking classes hosted by AARP in Houston.
One session will help keep fans cool during those early season games in the sweltering heat, with refreshments including coconut ice cream, watermelon sunrise pomegranate margaritas, and coconut and lemonade slushies. You can view the class live on Tuesday, July 19, at 10 a.m. and afterward, at youtube.com/texas.
Another class will feature healthy twists on party favorites, with recipes for salmon sliders with tzatziki and caper sauce, smashed and baked fingerling potatoes, and mulled cider. It will be live on Tuesday, Aug. 16, at 10 a.m., on the AARP Texas YouTube page and also available for later viewing.
The site includes additional cooking demonstrations, fitness classes and discussions.
Cookbook authors Beatrice Moore and Vernita Harris will lead the video sessions. Even though Harris is based in the Bahamas and Moore is in Texas, the two collaborated on recipes for their book, Pinch-Dash-Done: A Gateway to Flavorful Recipes.
