Vermont officials have taken multiple steps over the last year to make the state more age-friendly—part of a 10-year roadmap called Age Strong Vermont.
Starting May 14, AARP is launching Countdown to 90 Years—a recognition and call to action leading up to the 90th anniversary of Social Security on August 14, 2025. For nine decades, Social Security has been a stable and reliable foundation of retirement security for millions of Americans—and we believe it must remain that way for generations to come.
Finding an affordable place to live in Vermont can be challenging, but thanks to an innovative partnership between the State of Vermont and the Vermont State Housing Authority (VSHA), more Vermonters now have access to high-quality, energy-efficient housing. Through an Executive Order from Governor Phil Scott, a new program is providing brand-new, high-efficiency mobile homes at a discounted price to households earning below 140% of the Area Median Income (AMI).
Winterlude is a winter celebration that offers outdoor activities for ALL ages! Activities include: snowshoeing, sledding, cross-country skiing, nature walks, music, a fire pit, hot beverages, and refreshments. The event is FREE and is held at Schmanska Park (85 Grove Street, Burlington, Vermont) where the Barn and park are illuminated with decorative lighting and lanterns.
Across the Northeast, AARP state offices are currently recruiting new volunteers to serve in a variety of roles. And those who volunteer now say their work—on everything from fraud prevention to legislative advocacy—is highly rewarding.
