In case you haven’t noticed, the holiday season arrived early this year (right after Labor Day) and once again the Grinch in the form of a con-artist is working hard to ruin your celebrations. In this two-part series, we’ll look at a number of ways criminals are working to separate you from your money.
More than 100,000 Vermonters whose employers do not offer a retirement plan will be able to save for their future under the Green Mountain Secure Retirement Plan, which will start operating by January 2019.

It’s panic time. Christmas and Hanukkah are here and the frenzy of holiday shopping, checklists and bills is mounting. It’s a time of good cheer, smiling faces, and good will to all. Sorry folks, but it’s also time for the Grinch! The scammers are out and about spreading holiday gloom in a number of ways so let’s take a look at the short list of do’s and don’ts. (sorry if some of this may sound familiar but reminders do not hurt).
Lowering the Cost of Prescription Drugs
Tax season is underway. This year, AARP Foundation is again providing free tax assistance and preparation for taxpayers across Vermont with low to moderate income through the AARP Foundation Tax-Aide program. AARP Tax-Aide, in its 49th year, is the nation’s largest free tax assistance and preparation service, giving special attention to the older population. You do not need to be a member of AARP or a retiree to use this service.
How much have you saved for retirement? Five hundred dollars? Five thousand? Fifty thousand? If you have even $5 saved, you’re one step ahead of nearly half of working-age households — who have ZERO saved for retirement.
Protect youself and your family from identity thiefs! Bring your boxes or bags of documents, bank statements, credit card junk mail, etc. and watch it shredded at our free shredding days in South Burlington and Rutland. Please, no more than three boxes or bags per person. Paper clips and staples don't need to be removed.
