AARP Virgin Islands helps pass law to support family caregivers
Many family caregivers are responsible for handling their loved one’s estate at death. The variations and complexities in state laws can be a challenge for a caregiver to navigate this legal landscape during a difficult time. This year, AARP Virgin Islands successfully advocated to simplify a part of the process for property owners and their heirs to help ease the probate process. Act No. 8169 helps family caregivers better navigate the transfer of their loved one’s property at death while also addressing other key issues and avoid a potentially lengthy and costly probate process

The Council is charged with developing a national strategy to support family caregivers that includes communities, providers, government, and others.
