AARP DC will donate $1,000 on behalf of the 2017 AARP DC Andrus Award winner to an eligible non-profit organization of his or her choosing.
Named after AARP's founder, Dr. Ethel Percy Andrus, the Andrus Award honors outstanding individuals who donate their time, skills and passion as a volunteer.
Do you know a volunteer age 50+ making a significant difference in your neighborhood? Honor his or her dedication and commitment with AARP’s most prestigious and visible state volunteer award for community service.
Nominations for this year’s AARP DC Andrus Award will be accepted through Monday, July 10, 2017.

AARP DC Andrus Award for Community Service nominees must meet the following eligibility requirements:
- Nominee must be 50 years or older.
- The achievements, accomplishments, or service on which the nomination is based must have been performed on a volunteer basis, without pay.
- The achievements, accomplishments, or service on which the nomination is based must reflect AARP’s vision and mission.
- Couples or partners who perform service together are also eligible; however, teams are not eligible.
- This is not a posthumous award.
Nominations will be evaluated based on how the volunteer’s work has improved the community, supported AARP’s vision and mission, and inspired other volunteers.

The 2016 AARP DC Andrus Award honoree was Ron Swanda, a former U.S. Air Force pilot and retired non-profit association executive. After retirement, his “life reimagined” turned Ron's passion for community and service into a platform of support for older adults living in the District of Columbia.
