AARP Washington State Director Marguerite Ro issued the following statement today following the results of ballot initiative 2124.
“Washington’s 820,000 family caregivers are the backbone of WA’s long-term care system. The defeat of ballot initiative 2124 is good news for these heroes and the older loved ones who count on them.
We applaud the fact that Washington’s long-term care insurance program will be able to provide critical support for the family caregivers who help their older parents, spouses, and other loved ones during times of serious illness, injury or disability.
The WA Cares program is an important part of Washington’s long-term care continuum. AARP Washington will continue to fight to ensure all older Washingtonians can remain in the homes and communities they love, and that family caregivers have the support they need. Our commitment to enhancing the WA Cares program remains steadfast.
Now that I-2124 is in the rearview mirror, we will continue to work to improve the program so hard-working Washingtonians have access to flexible and affordable long-term care coverage that’s available when and where they need it.”
