AARP Seattle invites you to a special screening of the “AARP Movies for Grownups” Best Picture Award nominee in the Documentary category, “BIG SONIA” at the Egyptian Theater in Seattle.
This free screening will feature a post-movie Q&A panel with the Seattle-based director and producers of the film, community partners, and a special appearance by the star of the movie, Sonia herself!
At age 90, Holocaust survivor Sonia Warshawski is the larger-than-life proprietor of an iconic tailor shop in a dying suburban mall. When the mall goes under, and Sonia is served an eviction notice for her business that’s the last (and most popular) still open, she’s confronted by an agonizing decision. Should she try to open a new shop or retire? For a woman who “keeps busy to keep the dark parts away,” facing retirement brings up fears that she’d long forgotten and her horrific past resurfaces.
For years, Sonia has been speaking at schools and prisons, where her stories of overcoming the Holocaust have inspired countless people who felt their own traumas would leave them broken forever. Still vibrant at 90, she now faces her own turning point. She must answer the question; will you let your trauma define you? Or will your past make you stronger?
Don’t miss out on a chance to join us at the free screening of BIG SONIA!
