Their plan is to control your attention, and to control you... any way they can. They want to get you on the phone, and they’re calling from boiler rooms, studio apartments, and even prison cells from around the world. They want to sign you up for useless tech support or warranties. They ask for cash, or maybe try to go straight for direct access to your personal bank account.
The barrage of automated telephone solicitations or “robocalls” we get on our home and mobile phones seems to be never-ending. In fact, robocalls coming into the U.S. have more than doubled in recent years to nearly 50 billion calls a year. To make matters worse, experts estimate that up to half of these calls may be attempts to defraud consumers - and Washington state has been hit hard by this massive increase in unwanted scam calls.
To help consumers fight back, AARP has released this new video uncovering the tricks and tactics robocall scammers are using to rake in millions. Hear the story of an online vigilante who has turned the tables on the con-artists exposing their methods while gaining a worldwide following of more than 3-million YouTube subscribers.
Also hear from local and nationwide consumer fraud experts on what you can do to protect yourself and the people you care about. Thanks for watching "Turning the Tables on Scammers."
