In today’s digital age, we probably often ask ourselves, “What can I do to protect myself and my family further from fraud and scams?” While we know we can’t absolutely, 100% protect ourselves from those trying to get our personal information and money, following these five recommendations will help. And you have time to take action before the end of the year!

BILL STATUS UPDATE: House Bill 1087 passed the House on Feb. 21 (see AARP Statement) on a vote of 63-33. It passed the Senate on April 16 on a vote of 26-22 (see AARP Statement). The House concurred with Senate amendments on April 23, clearing the way for Governor Inslee's signature.

BILL STATUS UPDATE: Senate Bill 5740 passed the Senate on Friday, March 8 with a bipartisan vote of 31-17. Click here for AARP statement on Senate passage. It passed the House Committee on Consumer Protection and Business on April 2; passed the House Appropriations Committee on April 8; and is now heading to a House floor vote.
BILL STATUS UPDATE: Senate Bill 5292 (see below) passed off the Senate floor unanimously on Feb. 28. It passed the House Committee on Health Care & Wellness on March 27, and was referred to the House Appropriations Committee.
