Family visits during the holidays are a prime time to make sure aging relatives are managing all right on their own. For an estimated 282,000 family caregivers in West Virginia, this can be challenging, as they consider how to help loved ones continue to live at home.
AARP West Virginia is hosting a caregiving tele-town hall on Thursday, Dec. 14, 3-4 p.m. The telephone session aims to help caregivers broach sensitive subjects, such as driving, personal care, housework and finances.
The AARP state office has worked successfully to pass laws that help family caregivers, such as the CARE Act, which eases transitions from hospital to home, and the Uniform Power of Attorney Act, which provides protections for incapacitated people and their agents.
