Voters in the Mountain State’s capital city will elect a new mayor on Nov. 6. AARP West Virginia will host a Charleston mayoral debate Tuesday, Oct. 16. The debate will be televised on WVAH-TV (Fox 11) from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. and livestreamed on social media.

AARP is also focused on the state’s U.S. Senate election. The race could help determine which party controls the Senate next year. In addition, three U.S. House seats are up for election, as are all 100 state House of Delegates seats and 17 seats in the state Senate.

Because state senators are elected to four-year terms, the winning candidates will play a role in the state’s redistricting process.
