AARP California Welcomes New State Director

Pasadena, CA – AARP California is pleased to announce the appointment of Michael Murray as the new State Director, effective June 23, 2025. Michael brings more than 35 years of experience in leading diverse teams within AARP at the local, state, and national levels in pursuit of the Association’s mission to enhance the quality of life for all as they age.

For the past 11 years, Michael has served as AARP California’s Director of Business Integration, where he was a key member of the state’s leadership team overseeing strategic planning, operations, and team development. His leadership in workforce efforts impacting people aged 50-plus, along with his role as Campaign Director, has been instrumental in advancing initiatives such as nursing home reform, long-term services and supports, prescription drugs, retirement security (CalSavers), utilities, and voter education.

Michael has established a robust network of key partners and stakeholders within California, earning appointments to advisory committees, boards, and coalition partnerships that align with AARP’s goals. His dedication and strategic vision have significantly contributed to the advancement of AARP’s mission.

Michael holds a B.A. in Communications from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA, a Certificate in Corporate and Social Responsibility and a Mini MBA Certificate from Pepperdine Graziadio Business School. He is also a graduate of the LA Chamber’s Southern California Leadership Network. Michael is based in Pasadena.
