Lincoln High School graduate, Jason Lim, has been selected as the recipient of the 2023 Andrus Opportunity Award for Community. The award, which recognizes exemplary achievement and drive, is given to a college-bound graduating senior along with a $5,000 scholarship. Jason Nim is the eleventh student to receive the Andrus Opportunity Award.
To be considered for the award, graduating seniors submit an essay, personal statement and biography, letter of recommendation and must meet certain criteria. Among many impressive applications, Jason stood out for his academic excellence and contribution to school sports, clubs, and community service. As a Lincoln High student, Jason earned a 4.096 GPA while participating in varsity track and field and basketball—where he placed first in long jump and made second team in the Northern League for each respective sport.
In addition to his academics and athletics, Jason has also served his community. As the treasurer of the Lincoln High Key Club and member of the Youth United for Community Action, he raised money for the Pediatric Trauma Program and volunteered for charity events and community cleanups.
Jason is a first-generation college student and will be studying finance at the University of Southern California. After obtaining his degree, he hopes to create a food business that provides affordable, healthy food options in low-income communities.
The Andrus Opportunity Award is named for Dr. Ethel Percy Andrus, founder of AARP and the first woman to serve as principal at Lincoln High. Dr. Andrus strongly believed in the power of education. She spent her 28-year career as a principal guiding and supporting each of her students to ensure they received the most out of their high school education.
Jason embodies the academic passion and altruistic ambition of Dr. Ethel Percy Andrus.
