AARP in San Jose is here locally to help you take on 2023 with virtual and in-person events, local resources, information and more.

LOCAL VIRTUAL EVENTS:
Let’s Take it Outside: Penitencia Creek Trail – San Jose, CA (September 8 | 10 a.m. – Noon PT)
Join AARP California for a 2-mile stroll down the Penitencia Creek Trail, an urban trail connecting San Jose's Berryessa BART Station to Alum Rock Park. Hosted by the Bay Area Ridge Trail Council, this walk will demonstrate the importance of having urban trails that connect communities to open, vibrant spaces. Learn more and register HERE. Caregivers Count Conference (Every Saturday from September 9 – October 30 | 10 a.m. – Noon PT)
Join us for the annual Caregivers Count Conference designed for families and friends caring for loved ones! The conference features professional speakers covering a range of topics, including self-care, fall prevention and dementia care. Learn more and register HERE. A Virtual Cooking Demonstration: History of Chiles & Salsas (September 15 | 4-5 p.m. PT)
Turn up the heat in your kitchen! Maite Gomez-Rejon from ArtBites joins AARP to bring you a live cooking demonstration of spicy salsas. Discover how to make your own recipes while learning about the history of chiles. Learn more and register HERE. This virtual event is free and open to the public. Registration is required.

Let’s Talk Dinero: Investing in ADUs (September 25 a| 4 – 5 p.m. PT)
Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) expand housing options and can be an additional source of dinero. During this workshop, you’ll get general information about the design, permitting and financing process of ADUs. Learn more and register HERE. This virtual event is free and open to the public. Let’s Take it Outside: Pickleball (September 27 | Noon – 1 p.m. PT)
Join AARP California for a presentation on the sport of pickleball. Hear from the Chair of the San Jose State University Department of Kinesiology, Professor Tamar Semerjian, and Chris Boyer from the City of San Jose Department of Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services, as they share tips on how to prepare to play pickleball to avoid injuries and where to find and secure pickleball courts in San Jose. Healthy Living Festival – Oakland, CA (September 28 | 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. PT)
Join us at the 20th Annual Healthy Living Festival! There will be free health resources for older adults, as well as food, music, games and more. Also, make sure to stop by AARP’s booth to play four Social Security Plinko game and win a free prize. Learn more HERE. This in-person event is FREE and open to the public. Registration is conducted on-site, in person.

Senior Safari: Enjoy a Day at Happy Hollow Park & Zoo – San Jose, CA (September 28 | 9 a.m. PT) 
Join AARP California for Happy Hollow Park & Zoo’s Senior Safari series and enjoy a day at the zoo. This program is designed to help older adults improve their health, avoid social isolation, and enjoy a unique environment that stimulates both mind and body. Senior Safari admission and parking are free for those ages 50-plus that arrive before 10 a.m. PT (the park opens to seniors at 9 a.m. PT), and guests are welcome to stay for the day after gates open to the public. 14th Annual African American Alzheimer's Forum - Berkeley, CA (September 30 | 8:30 a.m. - 2 p.m. PT)
Join the Alzheimer's Association - Northern California and Northern Nevada 's for their 14th Annual African American Alzheimer's Forum! Discover caregiving services and resources and connect with other caregivers. The event will be held Saturday, September 30th from 8:30am-2:00pm at the Ed Roberts Campus in Berkeley, CA.
