AARP Colorado Seeks Volunteers for Hispanic Oral History and Denver Metro Mobility Audit Projects

 

AARP members in the

Denver metro region will have opportunity to volunteer for two extremely interesting projects: an effort to interview members of the Hispanic community on their participation in the sixties and seventies Chicano movement; and an audit of transportation options in two Denver metro neighborhoods.

In support of the Oral History project of Regis University and the History Colorado Museum, volunteers would be trained by university staff on how to conduct the interviews and would work with AARP Colorado office staff to record the experiences of activists and leaders involved in the social, cultural, labor, and political movements of Colorado’s Hispanic community in the sixties and seventies. The interviews will be transcribed and will become part of the oral history collections of the History Colorado Museum and Regis University that will be accessible online for public use.

Transportation Audit volunteers will be working with AARP and Denver Regional Mobility Access Council staff to conduct audits in one of two Denver metro neighborhoods. The goal of the audits will be to identify the strengths and weaknesses of each area’s transportation networks and to present the findings to elected officials and city planners in order to make each community an easier place for their residents to age in place.
