Mexican Group participating in festival

Cinco de Mayo in Pueblo typically is celebrated on the actual date on May 5, however, the celebration may be postponed due to COVID-19 virus. We will update you as we learn more about this event.

AARP Colorado encourages you to keep Pueblo's 5 de Mayo Festival on your calendar in 2020. The celebration may take place this year at Bessemer Park, 843 W. Northern Ave. in Pueblo. As one of the sponsors of this growing cultural event, AARP Colorado wants you to join us and enjoy two stages of continuous cultural entertainment, a workshop pavilion, car show and a Chicano exhibit.

"It's a very grass-roots celebration with so many educational opportunities," said AARP Colorado multicultural outreach director Robero Rey. "It's not the typical commercial celebration that you see in some of the larger cities."

While the celebration is very authentic, right down to the day, it may rescheduled this year. AARP Colorado will keep you posted. Please visit aarp.org/CO, or call Rey at 303-318-6763 for more information.

The Pueblo Cinco de Mayo festival provides plenty of entertainment — music and folklorico dancers from nearby schools — a number of speakers are included, as well as demonstrations and workshops to keep the history and talents of the Mexican heritage alive. Workshops included real adobe brick instruction and salsa making, to name a few. Chicano speakers talked about embracing the culture and the people. AARP Colorado is proud to provide sponsorship in part to this growing event in Pueblo.
