Vaccine Available to All, Regardless of Legal Status

Hispanics make up a disproportionate number of Colorado’s COVID-19 cases. As of mid-May, Hispanics who are about 22% of the state’s population, accounted for 26% of the State’s COVID-19 cases. The only major ethnic/racial group in the state whose case rate exceeded their share of the population.

In Denver, Hispanics make up 48% of COVID-19 cases and more than 30% of the city’s overall population.

Simultaneously, vaccination rates are the lowest of any major ethnic group, only 13 percent of Denver Latinos have been vaccinated, compared to 72 percent of white non-Hispanic residents.

Recently, COVID-19 cases have been rising fastest among 11- 17-year-olds. Vaccines’ protection extends beyond the individual; they offer an important shield to other family members, including children under 12 who are currently not eligible to get vaccinated but are at risk. They depend on the adults in the family getting vaccinated for their protection.

The vaccine is free to all—regardless of legal status. It is currently available in abundance at all vaccination sites and no appointment is necessary.
