AARP Eye Center
AARP Colorado is nearing the halfway mark in the Colorado Legislative session and the volunteers and I have been hard at work championing bills that support, protect and empower older Coloradans and their families.
Thus far, AARP Colorado's volunteer advocates have tracked more than 60 pieces of legislation and have taken positions on about half of those proposed laws. From affordable housing to reemployment to voting access, we are ensuring our voices are heard.
So far, we’ve supported bills that:
- Allow teachers to fill critical teacher shortages by going back to work post-retirement without penalty
- Modernizes the Older Coloradans Act to support and create strategies that prepare the state for its increasing older population
- Create an income tax credit to help income-qualified seniors afford housing
- Exempt incontinence products from state sales taxes.
Despite these early successes, we know we have a long road ahead of us as legislation continue to move through the process and new bills arise. To see what we are working on in real time, visit our bill tracker or follow us on Twitter at @AARPCO.
