AARP Eye Center
AARP Connecticut was pleased to honor the AARP Bridgeport Chapter #831 with the 2016 Chapter of the Year Award in October. The Bridgeport Chapter also received the Chapter of the Year Award in 2011.
The Chapter of the Year Award seeks to honor an AARP Connecticut chapter that serves its community by participating in, promoting and sponsoring activities that enrich the lives of older individuals. The award is a showcase of the year-
long contributions toward AARP’s vision and mission made by Bridgeport Chapter #831.
With its Our Veterans project, the Chapter provided significant support throughout the year, including:
• Stocking, maintaining items and volunteering at food pantries around Bridgeport;
• Sending letters and postcards to veterans and active duty military personnel;
• Staffing and serving meals at community suppers;
• Raising funds for Home for the Brave in Bridgeport, which helps veterans transition from a military to civilian life;
• Helping veterans, among others, in the job search;
• Sponsoring the North Branch Library Tax-Aide and Driver Safety programs.
We thank you for your dedication to promote and sponsor activities that enrich the lives of older adults in the community and for being champions of community service and advocacy.
