A Photo Recap of AARP Connecticut’s Weekend

AARP Connecticut staff and volunteers were in the community at two fantastic and meaningful events in Hartford on Saturday, June 4, and Sunday, June 5. Attendees at both events had an opportunity to learn more about AARP and the nationwide Take a Stand initiative asking Federal office candidates to lay out their plan to update Social Security so it’s financially sound with adequate benefits.

The weekend began in Lozada Park for a Safety Day event organized by the Julio Lozada Foundation, Inc., and the Hartford Fire Department. The event provides a fun and exciting atmosphere for children while teaching the importance of proper safety. It is in honor of Julio Lozada, a 12 year old boy who died in 1979 after a building collapsed during a fire. Unfortunately, because of a language barrier, firefighters could not get to Julio in time to rescue him. For more information, please visit www.juliolozada.com.

On Sunday, AARP Connecticut was set up in Hartford’s Bushnell Park for the Connecticut Institute for Community Development Festival del Coqui event that followed the annual Puerto Rican Parade in the city. Attendees of the Festival del Coqui – a premier Hispanic event that continues the tradition of promoting the Hispanic cultures that make Connecticut unique – see the many sights, sounds and flavours of the Hispanic culture.
