In March, 2010 The University of Connecticut Nonprofit Leadership Program successfully launched Encore!Hartford and is excited to be offering its eighth class from May 8 – September 21, 2018. This offering creates an opportunity for Hartford area residents to participate in the Department of Public Policy’s award-winning program providing business professionals and managers age 50 and older with well-honed skill sets and extensive work experience assistance to transition from a corporate career to one in the nonprofit sector. Entering its eighth year, Encore!Hartford, holds an impressive track record with 91% of participants finding employment (70% full-time), and 73% of those employed landing in the nonprofit sector.
Encore!Hartford 2018 is a five-month program of deep immersion in the nonprofit sector designed to address two critical needs: reduce professional level unemployment in the Hartford area and increase the capacity of local nonprofits. The curriculum includes sixty-plus hours of transition education in the areas of nonprofit leadership, development, finance, governance, strategic management, lobbying and advocacy, and more. The cornerstone of the program is a two-month fellowship applying the participants’ experience and skills to a challenging project while learning the work and culture of an area nonprofit.
AARP Connecticut is a strong partner for both Encore!Hartford and Encore!Fairfield County (launched two years ago) which includes $5,000.00 for partial or full scholarships for accepted members of the 2018 class in Hartford which begins May 8. Applicant review is based on the purposeful career direction of the applicant, transferable experience to benefit the nonprofit field and financial need. Scholarships are not constrained by age, although added consideration will be given to individuals 50 years of age and older.
Applications for one of the 25 seats for Encore!Hartford 2018 are being accepted now until April 30. Acceptance will be determined through a competitive selection process based on an applicant’s interests, skills, life and work experiences and passion for the work of the Connecticut nonprofit sector. The program fee is $ 3,950. Additional program and application information can be found on Encore!Connecticut and Encore!Hartford websites.
