AARP Delaware is pleased to announce that Carolyn Corrigan of Dagsboro has been selected to receive the 2020 Andrus Award for Community Service, the Association’s most prestigious state volunteer award. She is being honored for her outstanding volunteerism and commitment to the community. The AARP State Andrus Award for Community Service is an annual awards program developed to honor individuals whose service is a unique and valuable contribution to society. The award is named for AARP founder, Ethel Percy Andrus, whose motto “to serve, not to be served” continues to shape our work years after she founded this association to help older Americans age with dignity and purpose.

As part of our work in Livable Communities, AARP Delaware was the presenting Sponsor for the 2020 Designing Intersection for People in Delaware virtual conference. Organized by our community partner Bike Delaware, the conference had a diverse international panel that included issues experts and engineers from across the country and the Netherlands. It also served as platform for discussion of challenges for eight specific intersections across the State of Delaware that can be made a bit more safe for motorists, pedestrians and cyclists. AARP Delaware State President George Meldrum provided welcoming remarks, expressing AARP’s support for better transportation options for Delawareans, especially those age 50+.
