Vaccine is free for those eligible to receive it

TALLAHASSEE – AARP Florida State Director Jeff Johnson issued the following statement today regarding Florida’s 50+ vaccine expansion.

“On Monday, our state will open up its vaccination system to Floridians 50+ as Governor DeSantis’ prioritization of high-risk individuals continues. We applaud this expansion and appreciate the swift, clear progress that Florida is making. Additionally, it is encouraging that the Governor anticipates opening eligibility to all Floridians before May 1.

“AARP reminds all Floridians that the vaccine is free and does not require a fee or copay. Furthermore, we continue to hear feedback from our members and others who are struggling with access to technology and transportation. Florida has created a system for homebound individuals to register for vaccination by emailing HomeboundVaccine@em.myflorida.com. We encourage those who need vaccination information or help via phone to contact their local health department or the Florida Elder Helpline toll-free at 1-800-963-5337.

“While opening up eligibility is a positive and much-needed step in this process, AARP believes that now is the time to double down on efforts to reach vaccine seekers who face technology and/or mobility challenges. For this vaccination effort to succeed, no willing vaccine seeker can be left behind or forgotten.”
