Today, AARP Florida released the 2024 Legislative Voting Record. This annual publication includes detailed information on key legislation affecting older Floridians, votes taken during committee meetings and final actions by elected officials.
This year, AARP Florida focused advocacy efforts on increasing opportunities for Florida’s health care workforce, expanding affordable housing options and protecting the financial wellbeing of consumers. In the 2024 Voting Record, 65 bills covering these efforts were tracked. During the 60-day session, legislators filed 1,957 general bills, of which 325 passed. AARP supported 28 bills that passed.
“AARP Florida approached the 2024 legislative session as a wise friend and fierce defender for older Floridians,” said AARP Florida State Director Jeff Johnson. “AARP emerged from this session with key wins for older adults, including increasing health care workforce and protecting affordable housing options.
During the first five weeks of this year’s legislative session, AARP Florida advocacy volunteers traveled from across the state to Tallahassee and spent time in the Florida State Capitol. Volunteers met with legislators, testified in committee meetings and shared what matters most to Floridians 50+.
“Our volunteers played a critical role this legislative session,” said AARP Florida Director of Advocacy Zayne Smith. “Their work, in addition to new AARP staff, has led to stronger relationships with legislative leaders.”
AARP Florida will continue advocacy work to make a difference for all older Floridians. If you’re interested in becoming an advocacy volunteer with AARP Florida, click here.
