AARP Hearing Center

On September 12, 2025, South Florida came together for an evening of celebration, recognition, and gratitude as La Nueva 88.3FM hosted its Premios La Nueva Gala at the Hilton Miami Airport Blue Lagoon. The event marked a major milestone—celebrating 25 years of faith-based service and community impact through South Florida’s most trusted Spanish-language radio station.
Among the honorees was AARP South Florida, recognized with a Special Honorary Recognition for its years-long partnership with La Nueva and its unwavering commitment to uplifting older adults and multicultural communities across the state.
“AARP has been part of our journey from the very beginning,” shared the La Nueva 88.3FM team. “This recognition was a small but heartfelt way to thank them for walking alongside us and for helping strengthen the communities we serve.”
A Partnership Rooted in Purpose and Civic Engagement
For many years, AARP South Florida and La Nueva 88.3FM have been working hand in hand to empower South Florida’s Hispanic community through advocacy, education, and outreach. One of the cornerstone initiatives of this partnership is “Café con Leche”, AARP’s Spanish-language radio segment that has become a trusted platform for connecting with thousands of listeners.
Through Café con Leche, AARP South Florida hosts countless interviews with state legislators, local influencers, and community partners, helping inform and engage the public on critical issues—from voting and healthcare access to retirement security and fraud prevention. These conversations have not only deepened civic understanding but also extend AARP’s mission to ensure Hispanic voices are heard and represented at every level of public discourse.
This year, La Nueva recognized AARP South Florida as an honorary ally for its work in commemorating the 90th anniversary of Social Security, using the airwaves to educate the community on why this program remains essential for every American, regardless of age or background.
“Social Security is one of the most successful programs in our nation’s history,” said Ivonne Fernández, AARP’s Associate State Director for Advocacy. “Our work with La Nueva has allowed us to reach Spanish-speaking families with vital information—reinforcing the value of civic participation and long-term financial security.”
A Night to Remember
The gala began with a red carpet and media coverage at 6:00 p.m., followed by the awards ceremony at 7:00 p.m. Dressed in formal attire, community leaders, partner organizations, and long-time supporters of La Nueva gathered to celebrate the station’s legacy—and the collaborations that have made a real difference.
Ivonne Fernández accepted the award on behalf of AARP South Florida, expressing deep gratitude for the honor and reaffirming the organization’s continued commitment to advocacy, equity, and community-centered work.
Celebrating Community, Together
This unforgettable evening not only celebrated La Nueva’s 25+ year legacy—it also reminded us of the power of intentional partnerships grounded in shared values and service. Through trusted media like La Nueva 88.3FM and outreach efforts like Café con Leche, AARP South Florida continues to connect communities, elevate voices, and inspire civic engagement.
Congratulations to La Nueva 88.3FM on this important milestone. AARP South Florida is proud to be part of your story and looks forward to continuing our work together to build a stronger, more informed, and more connected Florida.
