Jeff's Message: Volunteers Are at the Core of Advocacy Success

Volunteers at the capitol (1).jpg

As we welcome March, we also welcome the start of the 2025 Florida Legislative Session—a time when decisions are made that could significantly impact the lives of older Floridians and their families. Throughout the year, AARP Florida works to improve the lives of Floridians 50+ and their families, but the legislative session is a critical time to make statewide changes. This session, AARP Florida staff and advocacy volunteers from across the state will join together to advocate for critical issues that matter most to older adults, — ensuring affordable and accessible housing, strengthening long-term services and supports and enhancing consumer protections. Visit our Florida Advocacy Hub to stay in-the-know.

Over the last several years, AARP Florida’s advocacy volunteers have traveled from across the state and played a critical role in advocating alongside the AARP staff. Throughout the session, advocacy volunteers will testify in front of elected officials during committee meetings, meet with their legislators and share their personal stories with the media.

AARP’s volunteers are the backbone of our organization, and their presence at the Capitol helps ensure that the concerns of older Floridians are heard loud and clear. Our volunteers build strong relationships with lawmakers and influencers across the state, creating a network of support and solidarity to make critical changes for older adults.

If you've ever thought about getting involved, now is the perfect time to join our advocacy volunteer team and make a difference. Visit aarp.org/flvolunteer to learn more and fill out an application.

Together, we can make a lasting impact for our communities and future generations.
