Rise to the Challenge: Join the 2025 Wisdom Warrior Movement!

AARP members continue to prove that retirement is not about slowing down—it’s a rallying cry to stay active, engaged, and connected. Through friendly battles of wit, agility, and exercise—all with a dash of humor—the Wisdom Warrior Challenge celebrates the unstoppable spirit of older adults.

Now in its sixth year, the Wisdom Warrior Challenge has evolved into a national movement, providing a unique platform for adults ages 50 to 105 to showcase their vitality, resilience, and energy. It’s more than a competition—it’s an opportunity to stay active, socialize, and break the myth that aging means slowing down.

The Challenge began in 2019 with just 19 seniors training for a local 5K race. Today, it boasts more than 1,500 participants nationwide.

Bigger and Better in 2025

“Aging should never be seen as a limitation,” said AARP volunteer and WWC founder Linda Borgmeyer. “This Challenge proves that no matter your age, you can continue to push boundaries, stay active, and live life to the fullest.”

The 2024 event drew record-breaking participation, with ten times more athletes and observers than its inaugural year. This year, the Challenge has expanded to 25 communities nationwide, ensuring more older adults have the opportunity to compete, train, and thrive. In Florida, events will take place at nearly 20 locations across the state.

Inclusivity remains a cornerstone of the event. Older adults of all abilities are encouraged to participate, with divisions for those using walking aids or wheelchairs. The only requirement? A simple affirmation of strength and resilience.

Free and Accessible for All

Unlike traditional races, where sign-up fees can range from $35 to $100, Wisdom Warrior Challenge participation is completely free, thanks to sponsorships. This ensures that older adults—especially those on a fixed income—can participate without financial barriers.

Participants not only train and compete in a year-long program leading up to the main event but also receive swag bags, apparel, water bottles, and a medal. A live-streamed recognition ceremony after the event allows participants to share their victories with loved ones worldwide.

Building a Community of Champions

The Wisdom Warrior Challenge isn’t just about competition—it’s about community, inclusivity, and proving that staying active is possible at any age. As Race Manager, Mike Marion brings decades of experience in fitness and race management, from his time in the Marine Corps to organizing large-scale endurance events. After timing his first Wisdom Warrior Challenge races, he was immediately drawn to the event’s unique sense of camaraderie and support. Now, he’s on a mission to expand its reach and inspire more older adults to get moving, set goals, and have fun doing it.

“Wisdom Warrior is unlike any other race I’ve managed,” says Marion. “It’s not about how fast you go—it’s about showing up, challenging yourself, and celebrating every step forward. The friendships, encouragement, and personal victories I witness at these events are what make them truly special. Whether you walk, jog, or roll across the finish line, you’re a Wisdom Warrior, and that’s something to be proud of.”

“WWC is about more than just staying active—it’s about building connections, strengthening mental well-being, and challenging age-related stereotypes,” added Borgmeyer. “By bringing these events to communities across the U.S., we’re not just promoting physical fitness; we’re creating a network of support and camaraderie that empowers older adults to thrive.”

The Wisdom Warrior Challenge kicks off in March and runs through April. There’s still time to sign up. Interested participants can register at the Wisdom Warrior Challenge website or contact organizers at WisdomWarriorChallenge@gmail.com or 561-202-7650.
