Thanks in part to a grant from AARP, downtown Kuna will be popping on Saturday, October 21 when the Bernie Fisher Parking Lot becomes the site of Park for a Day, a “pop-up plaza” with live entertainment, food, booths and other activities for people of all ages. The project goal is to help the community visualize a future for the parking lot, and how best to redesign it to improve its function as a parking lot and also as a catalyst for revitalizing downtown and connect city parks, the greenbelt and Main Street. The project will gather public input using outreach tactics to help spark new ideas, such as temporary street narrowing, pedestrian crossings and landscapes and visioning tools like maps and drawings.
As Medicare open enrollment gets under way, state Insurance Director Dean Cameron will answer questions about the program during a tele-town hall sponsored by AARP Idaho on Thursday, Oct. 19, at 10 a.m. Anyone who wants to join the conversation can email aarpid@aarp.org for call-in instructions.

Each month AARP produces an hour long television show that airs on RFD-TV called Rural America Live with AARP. Topics include disaster preparedness, financial security, fraud prevention and the list goes on and on. You can watch previous episodes HERE. The key word is “Live” because this is an interactive program where we answer questions and take calls during the broadcast. We’re currently reaching about 500,000 viewers and getting hundreds of calls each show.

AARP Idaho announces one winner for the AARP Community Challenge, aiming to create change and improve quality of life at the community-level. The winning project was awarded to Idaho Smart Growth. This project is funded through the AARP Community Challenge grant and is set to be completed by November 1, 2017.
